About the Role
Take an active role in contributing to the conceptualization, execution, and assessment of a diverse range of recreation programs and services. Collaborate closely with our dedicated team to help design and develop engaging activities that cater to the unique preferences and needs of our clients.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate in the design of therapeutic recreation programs in partnership with the Recreation Therapist.
- Implement recreation participation programs to meet patient interests.
- Contribute to the recreation therapy intervention plan and report significant changes to the Recreation Therapy team and stakeholders.
- Participate as a member of interprofessional team(s).
- Provide supervision to volunteers, students, and others as requested.
- Maintain Recreation Therapy records accurately and timely.
- Perform ongoing informal evaluation of recreation programs.
- Consider program requirements such as facilities, budget, equipment, and supplies; purchase and maintain supplies as necessary.
- Prepare various documents including posters, expense forms, equipment requests, and calendars; book entertainment and complete necessary forms.
- Participate in the orientation and mentorship of new staff and colleagues.
- Identify continuous learning opportunities to support skill and knowledge development.
- Engage in evidence-informed, person-centered practices related to recreation therapy.
- Be aware of conditions and measures that may affect the safety of patients, residents, students, employees, volunteers, physicians, and visitors.
- Comply with safety standards and applicable legislation.
- Identify and prevent safety issues and problems.
- Take corrective action where possible.
- Attend safety meetings, training, and updates.
- Work in a manner that exemplifies the centre’s core values and helps patients get their life back.
Requirements
- College diploma in Recreation Leadership, Recreation Therapy or related discipline.
- Minimum 1 – 2 years recreation/activation experience with the adult population.
- Experience in delivery of recreation programs.
- Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and within an interprofessional team.
- Effective collaborative and team-oriented skills.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal.
- Ability to be creative and resourceful.
- Computer skills with Microsoft Word and Outlook.
- Evidence of satisfactory attendance and punctuality.
- Current UHN employees must have successfully completed their probationary period, have a good employee record along with satisfactory attendance.
