About the Role
AECOM is seeking a self-motivated, experienced Geologist II to support our Environmental business line in the San Francisco Bay Area, California. The successful candidate will support Project Managers in the planning, coordination, field oversight, evaluation, and reporting of environmental investigation and remediation projects for various clients.
Responsibilities
- Support and manage field-based tasks associated with environmental investigation, monitoring, and remediation programs.
- Oversee and coordinate drilling, monitoring well installation, groundwater, soil, vapor, and surface water sampling activities.
- Collect, evaluate, and manage environmental data and assist with preparation of technical reports and regulatory deliverables.
- Communicate effectively with Project Managers, subcontractors, regulatory agencies, and clients regarding field activities and project progress.
- Interpret and document environmental data, conduct analyses, and compare findings to applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
- Assist in preparing environmental investigation reports, site characterization reports, remedial action documents, monitoring reports, and closure reports.
- Ensure field activities are performed in accordance with health and safety requirements and project work plans.
- Travel to project locations throughout California and neighboring states, including driving and occasional overnight stays.
- Demonstrate flexibility in supporting diverse projects while maintaining a commitment to technical excellence, safety, and collaboration.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior staff as opportunities arise.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Geophysics, Environmental Science, or a related geological science discipline.
- 2+ years of relevant environmental consulting or related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- Experience conducting environmental field investigations including soil, groundwater, soil vapor, and/or remediation system monitoring.
- Valid U.S. Driver's License and clean driving record.
- Ability to travel and perform field work at project sites.
- Qualified applicants offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test, where permitted by applicable law.
- Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship.
- Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a pre-employment drug screen.
- All newly hired employees are required to attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office location as a condition of employment.
Skills
- Ability to obtain a California Professional Geologist (PG) license, Geologist-in-Training (GIT) certification
- Familiarity with environmental drilling methods and monitoring well installation.
- Current OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification.
- Knowledge of California environmental regulatory programs including oversight by Regional Water Quality Control Boards (RWQCBs), Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), and local agencies.
- Experience with CERCLA, RCRA, and California Site Cleanup Program requirements.
- Experience preparing technical reports including monitoring reports, site investigation work plans, conceptual site models, well installation reports, and remediation documents.
- Task management experience and ability to coordinate field teams and subcontractors.
- Proposal preparation and business development support experience is a plus.
- Strong technical writing and data management skills.
