About the Role
The Homework Club Monitor supervises students during Bank Street’s after school Homework Club, providing a structured, quiet, and supportive environment where students can complete homework, read independently, and develop positive study habits. This role fosters independence, responsibility, and respectful behavior among middle school students.
Responsibilities
- Supervise students during Homework Club while maintaining a safe, quiet, and productive environment
- Assist students with homework by providing guidance and encouragement, without completing assignments for them
- Encourage independent learning, organization, and effective study habits
- Enforce Homework Club expectations, including maintaining a quiet workspace and following program rules
- Build positive relationships with students, families, and school staff
- Monitor student behavior and address conflicts using positive behavior management strategies
- Uphold Bank Street’s values of equity, diversity, inclusion, and respect
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all students throughout the program
- Take daily attendance and communicate any absences or concerns to the Auxiliary Programs team
- Oversee student dismissal, ensuring students are released to authorized adults or according to school dismissal procedures
- Assist with setting up and cleaning the Homework Club space before and after each session
- Communicate concerns regarding student academic progress, behavior, or well-being to the Auxiliary Programs team as appropriate
Requirements
- High school diploma
- Experience working with school-age children in an educational, camp, or after school setting
- Ability to maintain a calm, structured, and positive learning environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
- Dependability, organization, and a commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students
