About the Role
Emergency department technicians provide specialized assistance to nurses and physicians by administering tests with diagnostic exams and therapeutic procedures. They interact with acutely ill and unstable patients, supporting lifesaving interventions for traumatic injuries and medical emergencies at Albany Medical Center, a Level One trauma center.
Responsibilities
- Assists with resuscitation / CPR and emergency airway procedures
- Performs venipuncture to obtain blood specimens
- Assists physicians and nurses providing technical support for patient care
- Reports on the condition of the patient to the appropriate supervisor/staff member
- Assists with the transport of patients to other departments
- Assists with obtaining and documentation of vital signs, cardiac monitoring, and non-invasive blood pressure monitoring systems
- Obtains 12-lead EKGs, discontinues peripheral IV and heparin/saline locks
- Assist with wound care, insertion of Foley catheters, and nasogastric tubes
- Assists with positioning patients, application of orthopedic splints and dressings
- Measure and fit crutches and canes and instruct patients on proper use
Requirements
- Access to information considered sensitive to Albany Med Health System, its patients, affiliates, and partners, including but not limited to HIPAA Protected Health Information and other information regulated by Federal and New York State statutes.
- Ensure access to information is based on a “need to know” and is the minimum necessary to properly perform assigned duties.
- Use or disclosure shall not exceed the minimum amount of information needed to accomplish an intended purpose.
- Make reasonable efforts, consistent with Albany Med Health System policies and standards, to ensure that information is adequately protected from unauthorized access and modification.
