Responsibilities

  • Play a key role in maximizing the value of CIBC’s portfolio of businesses through the identification, assessment and execution of strategic initiatives spanning organic growth, acquisitions, divestitures, partnerships and joint ventures.
  • Work in close collaboration with business units and functional groups in the formulation and execution of enterprise-wide strategy.
  • Ensure efficient delivery of the annual strategic and financial plan to CIBC’s Board of Directors.
  • Provide independent financial analysis and strategic recommendations to the Executive Committee and Board on key business opportunities.
  • Provide ongoing leadership and direction to more junior members of the team while partnering cross functionally across the organization.
  • Provide thought leadership to business and functional group leaders on definition, prioritization, and execution of strategic initiatives, across both organic and inorganic initiatives to accomplish strategic objectives and targets.
  • Shape and influence strategies and strategic planning by acting as a key driver of all strategic issues related to business effectiveness and operational efficiency.
  • Lead strategic and business planning processes, ensuring alignment with CIBC business strategies and priorities.
  • Ensure robust, competitive intelligence through formal research, industry surveys and through contacts within the industry.
  • Conduct ongoing market scans and analysis of potential non-organic growth opportunities and develop list of potential assets for acquisition / partnership.
  • Act as a focal liaison point of contact across line of business and functional teams to ensure alignment of strategy to financial plans and targets and corporate governance requirements.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of relevant experience within finance, strategy or a business role.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial institutions, financial services practices and principles sufficient to analyze and interpret complex concepts and apply these in innovative ways.
  • Ability to give meaning to data, investigate complex problems, and make sense of information.
  • Ability to communicate detailed information in a meaningful way.
  • Goal-oriented and motivated by accomplishing goals and delivering best results.
  • Ability to take initiative, go above and beyond, and deliver results.
  • Ability to look beyond the moment and identify new opportunities.

  • Must be legally eligible to work at the specified location(s) and have a valid work or study permit where applicable.
  • May be asked to complete an attribute-based assessment and other skills tests (such as simulation, coding, French proficiency).
