About the Role

Hospital Attendants at Stony Brook Medicine provide routine custodial services to patient care and public areas. In the operating room, they prepare rooms for surgical cases and maintain a clean environment. The role requires excellent interpersonal and time management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with all organizational levels.

Responsibilities

  • Picks up and removes hazardous articles from floors, furniture, and equipment, placing them in designated receptacles.
  • Removes all waste from the operating room.
  • Appropriately removes suction canisters, including Neptune devices.
  • Washes floors, equipment, OR beds, surgical lights and booms, walls, kick buckets, and positioning devices.
  • Changes bed linens.
  • May set up equipment in assigned areas.
  • Adheres to all Infection Control and regulatory agency standards.
  • Cleans surgical suites and peri-op areas.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be able to speak English.
  • Ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
  • Previous experience working in a hospital setting and/or in the hospital industry is preferred.
  • Possess excellent intrapersonal skills, time management skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with all levels of the organization.
  • Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance.
  • Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen.
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
