About the Role
The Junior Machinist/Junior Lab Technician is responsible for performing machine operations to provide testing laboratory and weld test services for the CWB Group. This role supports day-to-day lab and shop activities, processes test plate orders, maintains records, and handles materials.
Responsibilities
- Operate basic machinery including milling machines, horizontal and vertical band saws, and angle grinders.
- Process test plate orders according to internal procedures and specifications.
- Maintain accurate log sheets and job records.
- Handle shipping and receiving materials and samples.
- Prepare materials and components for testing.
- Perform assigned tasks safely and efficiently.
- Maintain general housekeeping of the lab, ensuring a clean and organized work environment.
- Follow all safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.
- Assist with basic measurements and inspections using hand tools.
- Support inventory organization and material tracking.
- Ensure all client complaints received are documented and addressed within three business days.
- Handle customer correspondence, including test result emails.
Requirements
- Post-Secondary Education.
- Minimum of 1-2 years welding, metal industry, or testing service-related experience.
- General Machining, Tool and measuring equipment use.
- Practical welding and/or material and process knowledge.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and a minimum knowledge of Excel.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Ability to pay attention to detail and ensure high accuracy of work.
- Ability to work within scheduled timeframes and set priorities to ensure deadlines are met.
- Interpersonal Skills and ability to work with a team.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ontario Occupation Health & Safety Act and Industrial Reg. 851 knowledge.
- Forklift license.
