About the Role
Patient Safety Companions provide close observation and constant monitoring of patients with changes in physical or mental status under the supervision of a registered nurse. They perform all duties necessary to support optimum safe and efficient patient care, including patient transportation within the hospital. The role emphasizes providing high-quality care with respect for patient dignity.
Responsibilities
- Assist in patient care delivery as a nursing team member for patients requiring close observation.
- Maintain patient safety and adhere to infection control policies, including hand hygiene and isolation precautions.
- Provide comfort measures and therapeutic activities as directed by the nurse.
- Review care plans with the nurse, receive and give reports, and communicate patient needs and concerns.
- Assist with safe patient transfers using proper techniques and assistive devices.
- Transport patients within the hospital using safe techniques and patient identifiers.
- Utilize Vocera and Zebra/IPOD devices appropriately while maintaining patient privacy.
- Assist with the continuity of patient care through collaboration with staff and interaction with patients and families.
- Distribute requested equipment to nursing floors within 15 minutes.
- Assist with the transportation of stretchers and other equipment to hospital departments.
- Maintain and model Nuvance Health Values.
- Demonstrate regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
- HS diploma or equivalent required.
- Basic Life Support Certification required within 6 months of hire date, transfer date, or by 6/1/23 for existing PSC staff.
