About the Role

Patient Safety Companions provide close observation and constant monitoring of patients with changes in physical or mental status under the supervision of a registered nurse. They perform all duties necessary to support optimum safe and efficient patient care, including patient transportation within the hospital. The role emphasizes providing high-quality care with respect for patient dignity.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in patient care delivery as a nursing team member for patients requiring close observation.
  • Maintain patient safety and adhere to infection control policies, including hand hygiene and isolation precautions.
  • Provide comfort measures and therapeutic activities as directed by the nurse.
  • Review care plans with the nurse, receive and give reports, and communicate patient needs and concerns.
  • Assist with safe patient transfers using proper techniques and assistive devices.
  • Transport patients within the hospital using safe techniques and patient identifiers.
  • Utilize Vocera and Zebra/IPOD devices appropriately while maintaining patient privacy.
  • Assist with the continuity of patient care through collaboration with staff and interaction with patients and families.
  • Distribute requested equipment to nursing floors within 15 minutes.
  • Assist with the transportation of stretchers and other equipment to hospital departments.
  • Maintain and model Nuvance Health Values.
  • Demonstrate regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • HS diploma or equivalent required.
  • Basic Life Support Certification required within 6 months of hire date, transfer date, or by 6/1/23 for existing PSC staff.
