About the Role

This role involves supporting the network and communications pre-commissioning and commissioning process to ensure devices communicate properly during hot commissioning.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and implement site-specific commissioning plans and adhere to schedules.
  • Coordinate with project teams, including engineering, construction, quality assurance, and SCADA, to ensure alignment on commissioning activities.
  • Conduct pre-commissioning and commissioning tests, including performance, functional, and reliability testing of all communications systems.
  • Ensure all commissioning activities comply with industry standards, safety protocols, and environmental regulations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise during the commissioning process to ensure optimal performance of SCADA and site communications systems.
  • Prepare detailed commissioning reports, documenting test results, issues encountered, and corrective actions taken.
  • Continuously improve commissioning processes by incorporating feedback and lessons learned from completed projects.
  • Assist site commissioning personnel in establishing the Safety Tagging, Lockout & Work Permit Program and ensuring compliance with its provisions.
  • Perform testing for utility-scale solar power plants for EPC or Utilities in the United States.
  • Perform fiber installation and testing.
  • Perform Ethernet installation and testing.
  • Perform serial communications installation and testing (Modbus, DNP, etc).
  • Perform SCADA system understanding, testing, and commissioning.
  • Present, support, and lead-by-example with a safety and quality-oriented attitude.
  • Reinforce safe behaviors and correct at-risk behaviors.
  • Ensure all site team members understand standard operating procedures.
  • Lead and support the site team in technical, quality, and safety aspects, utilizing the system in place.
  • Utilize, inspect, and understand the proper usage of Personal Protective Equipment.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in commissioning utility-scale solar power projects.
  • Strong knowledge of solar PV systems, inverters, transformers, and electrical infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of networking and communications systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
  • Ability to interpret Electrical and Mechanical Drawings/Schematics.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards, safety protocols, and environmental regulations.
  • Knowledgeable in National Fire Protection Association/National Electrical Code (NFPA/NEC) standards, and IEEE/IES/API Standards.
  • Knowledgeable in NETA and IEEE standards as related to utility scale solar generation, including Transformers, MV and LV cabling, grounding, and solar-specific component testing.
  • Understands the commercial performance of power plants.
  • Familiarity with NERC guidelines and various ISO and TSO organization requirements is a plus.
  • Familiarity with DCS / SCADA control systems and methods for utility scale generation is a plus.
  • Familiarity with testing of mechanical and solid state relaying systems is a plus.
  • Functional competencies include attention to detail, communication, customer focus, prioritization, and drive.
