About the Role
The Waste Technician collects and categorizes general Municipal Solid Waste (trash, recycling, medical and hazardous waste) generated at client facilities. This role involves collection, hauling, storing, processing, and disposal of waste into various equipment like dumpsters, compactors, bailors, or trailers.
Responsibilities
- Collect trash, recycle, medical, and/or hazardous waste.
- Consolidate and sort materials into assigned categories efficiently and accurately.
- Inspect materials and sort items by type, size, condition, coloring, marking, or other characteristics.
- Weigh materials and containers, keeping records of the total amount of waste collected.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area, including sweeping and picking up trash around dumpsters, utility courtyards, docks, and fence lines.
- Collect, haul, and process pre-sorted waste and dispose of post-sorted waste into dumpsters or compactors.
- Establish secondary jobs to ensure continuous productivity.
- Comply with safety rules, policies, and procedures, and address at-risk behavior.
- Perform work assignments collaboratively with team members.
- Perform repetitive tasks.
- Follow all company procedures, policies, and rules.
- Ensure up-to-date completion of all site-required trainings.
- Take direction and respond to supervision.
- Communicate professionally with leads, supervisors, co-workers, managers, and customers.
- Use proper personal protective equipment.
- Present a professional appearance and conduct.
- Understand customer service and satisfaction.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 1-2 years of recycling or solid waste experience in a company environment, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Valid Motor Vehicle Report.
- May be required to be vaccinated and provide proof of vaccination records upon employment (Influenza, DTap, Meningitis, Meningitis B, Polio, Rabies, Yellow Fever).
- CPR/AED/First Aid Certification is a plus.
- May be required to possess a valid driver’s license.
- Complete all safety and task training certification.
- May be required to become forklift certified.
- May be required to have hazardous waste handler training per RCRA.
- Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, and other documents.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment.
- Willingness to share knowledge with the team.
- Knowledge of the upkeep and care of cleaning equipment.
- Knowledge of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use.
- Employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear.
- Employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
Skills
- Bilingual is a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment, and willingness to share with team.
- Knowledge of the upkeep and care of cleaning equipment.
- Knowledge of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use.
