About the Role

Develops and leads high-quality, developmentally appropriate programs for children to foster their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth. This role also leads the implementation of programs and activities that support the inclusion and integration of children with special needs, while fostering a team environment within the classroom and the Centre.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and organize a safe environment and supervise children to protect their safety and well-being.
  • Ensure equipment and the physical environment are free of safety or health hazards.
  • Plan, execute, and evaluate daily programming using approved curriculum to promote optimal child development.
  • Encourage active learning, build self-esteem, and foster an inclusive and respectful environment.
  • Facilitate planned and spontaneous experiences for children.
  • Work in compliance with the Child Care Early Years Act, Toronto Operating Criteria, Toronto Public Health guidelines, and the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Observe children's strengths, challenges, skills, and interests to plan and revise programming.
  • Collaborate with other staff, such as Assistant Teachers and Resource Teachers.
  • Demonstrate positive adult/child interactions and effective communication.
  • Promote children's independence and problem-solving skills.
  • Build children's confidence and assist them in understanding and dealing with behavioral consequences.
  • Model mutual respect and kindness.
  • Communicate sensitively and appropriately with parents/families, providing feedback on child's learning and development.
  • Liaise with other agencies and individuals to support children's progress.
  • Support the team in managing children's medication schedules and allergies.
  • Drop off and/or pick up children from buses outside the Centre if required.
  • Serve and clean up lunches, prepare snacks, and maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen.
  • Perform housekeeping duties as assigned.
  • Supervise student teachers and assist with college evaluation forms and discussions.

Requirements

  • Early Childhood Education degree/diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with families and children, including those with special needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver inclusive programming to children with special needs.
  • Member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
  • Strong working knowledge of ELECT and High Scope curriculum.
  • Proficiency in program planning based on an inclusion model.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent listening skills.
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Internet, and email.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective work partnerships with diverse individuals.
  • Acceptable Vulnerable Police Record Check.
  • Current Standard First Aid certification.
  • Appropriate medical and immunization record.
