About the Role

The Financial Risk Manager will support the effective oversight, analysis, and reporting of the Bank’s financial risks, with a focus on enhancing the quality, automation, and insightfulness of financial risk management information. This role operates within the second line Risk & Compliance function, providing independent oversight and challenge across various financial risk activities including capital adequacy, liquidity, market risk, interest rate risk, counterparty risk, and credit portfolio oversight. The position involves close collaboration with Finance, Treasury, Credit Risk, Data, and Technology teams to ensure accurate and timely financial risk reporting, supporting effective management decisions and prudential document reviews like ICAAP and ILAAP.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and oversee the production of regular financial risk reporting and management information.
  • Support the development of accurate, timely, clear, and consistent financial risk MI aligned to the Bank’s Risk Appetite Framework.
  • Analyze financial risk data and trends to identify key movements, emerging risks, and drivers of change.
  • Prepare clear commentary and insight for reporting to relevant committees.
  • Support the CRO and Risk function in providing second-line input to financial risk reporting.
  • Ensure financial risk MI provides meaningful insight into risk appetite and required actions.
  • Support the development of dashboards and visual reporting tools for financial risk information.
  • Lead and support the automation and continuous improvement of financial risk reporting and MI processes.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce manual data handling and spreadsheet dependency in risk reporting.
  • Develop, maintain, or enhance automated reporting routines using tools such as Python, Power BI, Excel, or SQL.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Treasury, Credit Risk, Data, and Technology teams to improve data flows, quality, and efficiency.
  • Build repeatable reporting processes with clear data lineage, version control, and documented assumptions.
  • Support improvements to the control environment over financial risk reporting.
  • Embed good data management practices within the second line Risk function.
  • Provide recommendations to improve the scalability and resilience of financial risk reporting.
  • Provide second-line oversight, review, and challenge of financial risk management activities.
  • Monitor adherence to financial risk appetite metrics, triggers, and limits.
  • Challenge proposed management actions when metrics move outside appetite.
  • Support independent assessment of financial risk exposures, issues, trends, and concentrations.
  • Review financial risk policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Support oversight of financial risk controls.
  • Contribute to second-line assurance activity over financial risk.
  • Support the identification, assessment, and escalation of financial risk issues.
  • Maintain constructive working relationships with first-line stakeholders.
  • Support second-line review, challenge, and assurance of the Bank’s ICAAP, ILAAP, and other prudential risk documents.
  • Review and challenge key assumptions, methodologies, and scenarios within prudential papers.
  • Support the development of high-quality prudential reporting.
  • Assist with second-line input into capital adequacy, liquidity adequacy, funding risk, interest rate risk, and related stress testing.
  • Support review and challenge of the linkage between ICAAP, ILAAP, Recovery Plan, Risk Appetite Framework, and financial risk MI.
  • Support responses to internal audit, external audit, regulatory feedback, and remediation actions.
  • Assist with horizon scanning for prudential regulatory developments.
  • Support second-line oversight of credit portfolio risk.
  • Review and challenge portfolio MI.
  • Understand how credit portfolio movements affect capital, profitability, funding, liquidity, and risk appetite.
  • Support the development of portfolio analytics and reporting.
  • Contribute to review and challenge of stress testing outputs.
  • Help translate technical analysis into clear messages for senior management.
  • Build strong relationships across Risk, Compliance, Finance, Treasury, Credit, Data, Technology, and Operations.
  • Present financial risk insights clearly and confidently to various audiences.
  • Support the CRO and Risk function with broader risk projects and initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of an integrated and forward-looking financial risk oversight framework.
  • Maintain clear records of review, challenge, decisions, and action tracking.
  • Support the preparation of materials for governance, audit, and regulatory engagement.
  • Promote a culture of strong risk management, effective challenge, and accountability.

Requirements

  • Experience operating in a growing, changing, or lean organisation, where individuals are expected to be hands-on and adaptable.
  • Professional qualifications in risk management, accountancy, treasury, banking, finance, data analytics, or a related area would be useful but are not essential where the candidate can demonstrate relevant practical experience.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial risk data and convert it into clear, practical insight.
  • Strong automation and data management capability, with a genuine interest in improving reporting processes and reducing manual effort.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write clear committee-level commentary.
  • Ability to present confidently to different audiences, including technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to provide independent challenge in a constructive, proportionate, and evidence-based way.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to work closely with senior colleagues across first and second line functions.
