About the Role

As an Application Support Engineer, you will provide hands-on technical support, system administration, and monitoring for key business applications and services. You will act as a crucial link between users and technology teams, resolving issues, maintaining service quality, and supporting critical systems. This role is ideal for someone with a broad technical skillset who enjoys problem-solving, takes ownership, and is eager to develop expertise in applications, cloud, automation, and operational support.

Responsibilities

  • Support and troubleshoot business applications and services, taking ownership of incidents and service requests through to resolution.
  • Use scripting languages such as Python, Java or Shell script to support automation, diagnostics and data handling.
  • Query and analyse data using SQL to support incident resolution, investigation and operational insight.
  • Support and interact with AWS services, including Step Functions and related components.
  • Perform controlled administrative tasks on production systems, following change, security and risk procedures.
  • Triage, prioritise and manage incoming tickets through the service management system, ensuring timely resolution in line with SLAs.
  • Complete daily health checks across applications, environments and monitoring dashboards.
  • Proactively identify, investigate and resolve system issues and alerts, escalating more complex incidents with clear diagnostic detail and context.
  • Maintain system documentation, contribute to knowledge bases and support knowledge-sharing across the team.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, monitoring, automation and system performance.

Requirements

  • Experience in an Application Support, Technology Operations or similar role.
  • Experience working with ticketing or service management systems.
  • Exposure to Java applications, SQL and cloud platforms, ideally AWS.
  • Experience supporting production or business-critical environments.
  • Clear and professional communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
