About the Role

The Division of Family and Child Health (DFCH) of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is seeking a Public Health Nurse to join their team in NYC schools. This role is crucial for supporting the physical and socio-emotional health of children and families, promoting health equity, and ensuring the well-being of New York City's youth.

Responsibilities

• Perform as a member of a health team in New York City schools.
• Prepare case findings, make referrals, and conduct follow-up with screening teams, doctors, and other healthcare providers.
• Assist in providing health education to students and staff.
• Advise families on proper health practices.
• Maintain school records and prepare monthly reports for nursing supervisors.
• Supervise Public Health Advisors.
• Establish contacts and collaborate with school administrators and the community.

Requirements

• Must be a permanent Public Health Nurse (School Health) or appear on the list for Public Health Nurse, Exam No. 5143, or be eligible for consideration under 55-a.
• Must be able to perform Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for appointment to Office of School Health.
• For Assignment Levels II and III, must meet supervisory level qualification requirements set forth in Section 11.42 of the New York State Sanitary Code.
