About the Role

The Kings County District Attorney’s Office, New York City's busiest prosecutor’s office, is seeking attorneys for a major hiring initiative. Responsibilities

  • Handle meaningful cases early in careers for entry-level attorneys.
  • Engage in prosecution, defense, public interest, or private practice roles.
  • Work across the entire criminal justice system, from misdemeanors to homicides to appellate litigation.
  • Operate in specialized bureaus and units focused on priority and emerging areas of law.
  • Utilize advanced tools and support through the in-house Digital Evidence Lab, Forensic Science Unit, and Virtual Currency Unit.
  • Contribute to the Conviction Review Unit, a national model for identifying and correcting past injustices.
  • Implement a model that combines strong enforcement with smart prevention strategies, including restorative justice programs, trauma-informed services, and diversion initiatives.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Ability to write in a direct and succinct manner.
  • Ability to capture and relay important information effectively.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Agility to juggle multiple tasks and cases at any given time.
  • Commitment to acquiring or strengthening a rich knowledge of New York statutes, including the Penal and Criminal Procedure Laws.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of New York statutes in a variety of circumstances.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Capacity for patience, flexibility, and creativity in obtaining and providing information.
  • Ability to communicate with police officers, court staff, victims, attorneys, and witnesses.
