About the Role
NYC Parks manages over 30,000 acres of diverse properties including recreational facilities, nature centers, and historic buildings. This role is crucial for the planting, maintenance, and removal of trees and large shrubs within the city's green spaces.
Responsibilities
- Perform all types of work for planting, maintenance, and removal of trees and large shrubs.
- Climb, prune, brace, cut, and fell trees and large shrubs.
- Operate bucket truck, aerial lift, cherry picker, and chipper equipment.
- Identify hazard defects of trees and ensure public safety.
- Perform tree inspections.
- Identify trees by species and inspect for pests and diseases like the Asian Longhorned Beetle.
- Prepare and use composting sites.
Requirements
- Six months of satisfactory, full-time experience as a climber and pruner or arborist performing tree work.
- Experience must include climbing, pruning, bracing, cutting, and felling trees and large shrubs.
- Experience must include operating manual, power-driven, and motorized equipment for tree work.
- Experience as a ground person is not acceptable.
- Possess a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York at the time of appointment.
- Obtain a Class B Commercial Driver License valid in the State of New York within one year of appointment.
- Maintain a Class B Commercial Driver License for the duration of employment.
- Driver license must not have restrictions precluding Climber and Pruner work.
- Serious moving violations, license suspension, or accident record may disqualify applicants.
