About the Role

Responsibilities

  • Lead educational and recreation-based programs for various age groups in natural areas.
  • Manage projects focused on wildlife, urban nature preservation, and resource stewardship.
  • Facilitate programs such as canoeing, hiking, fishing, biking, and historical tours.
  • Staff nature centers, provide information to the public, and enforce park regulations.
  • Patrol parks to maintain a visible presence and ensure compliance with rules.
  • Respond to emergencies and provide first aid to park visitors.
  • Issue summonses for rule violations and may detain or arrest violators.
  • Potentially work in any borough of the city.

Requirements

  • Ability to work any shift, including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to walk and/or stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to drive or sit in a patrol vehicle while remaining alert.
  • Must be twenty-one years of age or older.
  • Must be a citizen of the United States.
  • Must be a resident of New York City.
  • Must have no record of convictions for any felony or serious offense against public safety.
  • If discharged from military service, the discharge must not have been dishonorable.
  • Must be of good moral character.
  • Must possess a valid New York State driver license.
  • Must maintain a valid driver license throughout employment.
  • Candidates will be medically evaluated to ensure they can perform essential job functions.
