About the Role

The First Deputy Commissioner oversees multiple divisions including Community Outreach & Partnership Development, Business Development & Special Events, Communications, and the Lifeguard Division. This role involves providing judgment and discretion to key leadership and managing complex projects with frequent reprioritization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide judgment and discretion to NYC Parks First Deputy Commissioner, the Citywide Chief of Special Programs and their divisions.
  • Manage complex projects and handle frequent re-prioritizations requiring independent decision-making.
  • Proactively identify and exercise independent analysis and judgment in prioritizing situations for leadership attention.
  • Coordinate resources and assemble reference materials for meetings and events.
  • Conduct research and prepare presentations, briefings, and reports.
  • Monitor and track operations activities and assist with projects supporting seasonal operations and agency initiatives.
  • Provide outstanding customer service and administrative support for daily operations.
  • Answer phones and draft correspondence to constituents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community-centered activities related to the duties.
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community-centered activities related to the duties.
  • Equivalent education and/or experience to the above, with at least one year of experience as described in the first requirement.
  • Must be a current full-time, annually paid Parks employee.
  • ERN must be included on cover letter and resume for current employees.
