About the Role

The Bureau of Eligibility Verification (BEV) is recruiting for an Associate Fraud Investigator II to function as a Borough Chief. This role manages investigative processes, coordinates policy research, oversees procedural manuals, and conducts internal audits to deter cash assistance fraud.

Responsibilities

  • Manage work assignments for all sub-units under supervision.
  • Monitor and implement investigative processes, providing feedback to staff.
  • Identify and schedule tasks, due dates, and goals for group efficiency.
  • Coordinate and research NYS DSS policy guidelines and prepare comprehensive reports.
  • Oversee and implement procedural manuals for the BEV/Group and provide technical assistance.
  • Monitor time and leave of subordinate staff, provide training, and evaluate job performance.
  • Coordinate the planning and implementation of all investigative special projects.
  • Perform other supervisory and investigative functions in the absence of the Director.
  • Conduct internal audits and prepare statistical reports.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be permanent in the Associate Fraud Investigator Civil Service title.
  • A four-year high school diploma or equivalent and five years of satisfactory, full-time experience in investigations, credit evaluation, asset searching, or evidence research, with one year in a supervisory or administrative capacity.
  • An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college, including 12 credits in criminal justice, forensic science, police science, criminology, criminal justice administration and planning, and/or law, plus three years of experience as described above, with one year in a supervisory or administrative capacity.
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience as described above, with one year in a supervisory or administrative capacity.
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to the above, with a high school diploma or equivalent and one year of supervisory or administrative experience in the specified areas.
  • Undergraduate college credit can be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 semester credits, including or supplemented by 6 credits in specified areas, for one year of experience.
