About the Role
As a Platform Engineer, you will work across the entire Technology department, assisting other engineers in shipping better, faster, and safer code. Your time will be split between embedded engagements within domain squads and central platform work on shared infrastructure. This role emphasizes identifying and owning problems end-to-end, leveraging AI as a core working mode.
Responsibilities
- Partner with domain squads to ship code and tools that enhance their capability and solve real problems.
- Build shared, adoption-driven infrastructure like feature flags, canary rollouts, fast builds, and CI/CD patterns.
- Extend AI across the engineering lifecycle, including ticket generation, config authoring, incident response, and code review.
- Maintain and evolve shared services such as AWS, GitHub, Datadog, and Cloudflare.
- Automate manual processes and remove friction from the developer day-to-day.
- Coach squads on SLOs, observability, and AI tooling.
- Proactively identify, scope, and deliver high-leverage problems.
Requirements
- Day-to-day experience with AWS and Terraform, balancing performance, cost, and reliability.
- Good judgment across CI/CD and observability, comfortable with safe and reliable deployment practices.
- Experience and enthusiasm using AI coding tools, or a keenness to adopt this style of working.
- Willingness to pick up app-side stacks like Ruby and Python.
- Comfortable operating inside long-lived monoliths without trying to rewrite them.
- Ability to take end-to-end ownership of problems, operating in ambiguity and defining the problem before the solution.
- Curious and innovative mindset, open to feedback and coaching, and seeking opportunities for learning and development.
- Driven to deliver high-quality results and take initiative.
- Ability to collaborate effectively and work cross-functionally with other teams.
- Excited about problem-solving with a logical and collaborative approach.
- Experience rolling out production-ownership practices across a team or organization (preferred).
- Experience working on an e-commerce site or in a fast-growing consumer-facing environment (preferred).
- Experience setting patterns that other engineers adopted without being told to (preferred).
- Experience writing services or apps that fit into distributed architectures (preferred).
