About the Role
The Kitchen Porter is responsible for undertaking a range of kitchen duties in an efficient and effective manner, including performing simple manual work to maintain a clean and orderly kitchen. The Porter typically works in the back of the cafe performing essential duties and assists in clearing dishes from server stations during downtime.
Responsibilities
- Contributes positively to the team environment, working cohesively with the team to deliver exceptional experiences.
- Washes pots, pans, cutlery, crockery, glasses, and traps.
- Maintains neat appearance of working areas and cleaning equipment storage areas.
- Ensures store is prepped with tools needed to operate effectively and cleaning station is ready for table turns.
- Works closely with front of house teammates to ensure efficient bussing of tables to quickly turn tables.
- Performs fast, efficient, and thorough cleaning of all cooking and eating tools.
- Builds relationships and works cohesively with the back of house & front of house teams to ensure a seamless experience.
- Communicates effectively across all levels in the café to ensure responsibilities can be executed to standard.
- Follows all procedures and meets food hygiene regulations.
- Receives and unpacks all kitchen & food deliveries.
- Sweeps and mops kitchen floors.
- Cleans garbage cans and waste barrels.
- Washes worktables, walls, and refrigerators.
- Operates dishwashing machine according to standard operating procedure.
- Performs general cleaning duties, such as sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming, tidying up stations, emptying bins, checking and cleaning bathrooms.
- Maintains grooming & uniform guidelines.
Requirements
- Minimum of one-year porter experience in a high-volume cafe environment preferred.
- DOH accreditation or Safe Serve Certified recommended.
- Attention to detail.
- A team player with proven experience working on a team to achieve great performance.
- Ability to work in a high stress, fast-paced work environment.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
- Manual dexterity, auditory and visual skills.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures.
