About the Role
To act as a full-time Approved Mental Health Act Professional (AMHP) for London Borough of Barnet, carrying out all AMHP duties including triaging referrals and liaising with key partner agencies. The role involves conducting high-quality assessments, arranging hospital admissions, and safeguarding adults and carers at risk. Additionally, the position requires participation in the Out of Hours AMHP Rota and potentially training as a Practice Learning Educator.
Responsibilities
- Carry out all AMHP duties as required by the Mental Health Act.
- Triage referrals and liaise with GPs and other key partner agencies.
- Develop and maintain multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working.
- Provide high-quality, comprehensive assessments involving relevant parties.
- Assess and arrange hospital admissions under the Mental Health Act or on a voluntary basis.
- Refer or signpost to alternative least restrictive alternatives to admission.
- Safeguard adults and carers at risk of harm and promote Making Safeguarding Personal principles.
- Provide unsocial hours by participating in the Out of Hours AMHP Rota.
- Act or train as a Practice Learning Educator to facilitate training of AMHPs.
Requirements
- Approved Mental Health Professional.
- Social Work Degree/Diploma, Nursing or Occupational Therapy Qualification including registration of relevant professional body.
- Working and applied knowledge of the Mental Health Act (1983) and Care Act (2014).
- Acquaintance with other relevant legislation (e.g., Children Act 1989 and 2004, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Human Rights Act 1998).
- Competent in the use of case management systems.
- Understanding and acceptance of how case management systems benefit service efficiency, effectiveness, and safety.
- Proven competency to handle confidential/sensitive personal information appropriately and securely in accordance with GDPR and Caldicott principles.
