About the Role

As Senior Strategy and Planning Manager, you will lead high-impact strategic projects that shape the future direction of PBWM. You will combine market insight, commercial analysis and internal performance data to identify opportunities and risks, evaluate strategic choices, and provide clear recommendations to senior decision-makers. Your work will support sustainable growth, strong client outcomes, and long-term shareholder value.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and present compelling strategic recommendations to senior management.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of implemented strategies, recommending adjustments.
  • Communicate complex strategic information clearly and concisely to diverse stakeholders.
  • Identify and assess potential risks associated with strategic plans and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis of internal and external data.
  • Contribute to or set strategy, drive requirements and make recommendations for change.
  • Plan resources, budgets, and policies; manage and maintain policies/processes; deliver continuous improvements and escalate breaches of policies/procedures.
  • Advise key stakeholders on functional and cross-functional areas of impact and alignment.
  • Manage and mitigate risks through assessment, in support of the control and governance agenda.
  • Demonstrate leadership and accountability for managing risk and strengthening controls.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of the organisation functions to contribute to achieving business goals.
  • Collaborate with other areas of work for business-aligned support.
  • Create solutions based on sophisticated analytical thought comparing and selecting complex alternatives.
  • Adopt and include the outcomes of extensive research in problem-solving processes.
  • Seek out, build and maintain trusting relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Analyse market trends, competitor activity, client needs, technological developments, and the wider economic, political and regulatory environment.
  • Assess PBWM’s competitive position and identify emerging strategic opportunities and risks.
  • Synthesise complex internal and external information into clear insights and actionable recommendations.
  • Contribute to the development and evolution of PBWM’s overall strategy.
  • Create compelling strategic narratives and presentations for senior stakeholders.
  • Translate PBWM’s strategy into clear operational priorities, transformation plans and measurable outcomes.
  • Develop realistic, structured workplans that account for dependencies, delivery risks and stakeholder review.
  • Monitor progress against strategic objectives and evaluate whether initiatives are delivering their intended outcomes.
  • Identify areas requiring intervention, course correction or escalation.
  • Support clear communication of PBWM’s strategy and transformation priorities across the organisation.
  • Lead the assessment of complex business problems and growth opportunities.
  • Evaluate strategic options and design choices from client, colleague, commercial, operational and risk perspectives.
  • Develop business models, strategic blueprints and investment cases to support decision-making.
  • Define strategic objectives, delivery approaches and appropriate risk mitigations.
  • Partner with senior stakeholders and subject-matter experts to shape proposals and build organisational support.
  • Prepare high-quality materials for the PBWM Executive Committee, Barclays Group Executive Committee, Board and other senior governance forums.
  • Support the preparation of strategic updates for regulators and other external stakeholders.
  • Shape content for Barclays reporting cycles, investor communications and specific external engagements.
  • Communicate complex strategic issues clearly, concisely and with appropriate executive judgement.
  • Build trusted relationships across PBWM, Barclays Group and relevant external organisations.

Requirements

  • A degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Significant experience in strategy, strategic planning, business transformation or a related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of private banking, wealth management or a closely related financial-services sector.
  • Demonstrable experience shaping business strategy and translating it into executable plans.
  • Experience developing strategic propositions, products, services or distribution solutions, including digital channels.
  • Strong commercial and analytical capability, including the ability to interpret financial, market and operational data.
  • A structured and creative approach to solving complex, ambiguous business problems.
  • Experience developing robust business cases and evaluating strategic trade-offs.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at executive and Board level.
  • Strong stakeholder-management skills and the credibility to challenge, influence and build consensus among senior leaders.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organisation and workload management.
  • Experience in management consulting, strategy consulting or an in-house corporate strategy team.
  • Experience supporting executive, Board, regulatory or investor-facing engagements.
  • Experience working on large-scale transformation programmes within a complex, regulated organisation.
