About the Role

Join Sydney Trains’ Rail Fire and Emergency Services unit, a critical team ensuring the safety of staff, contractors, commuters, and emergency services personnel by responding to and resolving rail emergencies across the Sydney Trains and Sydney Metro network. This role involves supporting emergency operations, providing expert advice, assisting with firefighting, evacuations, first aid, and property/environment protection. You will also contribute to prevention and protection activities, including drills, equipment maintenance, and pre-incident plan development.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to rail emergencies across the Sydney Trains and Sydney Metro network.
  • Act as key support for emergency services during emergencies, providing expert advice and assisting with operations.
  • Support safe access routes and maintain safe working conditions for emergency services.
  • Assist with firefighting efforts, evacuate people, administer first aid, and protect property and the environment during emergencies.
  • Support ongoing prevention and protection activities across the Sydney Trains and Sydney Metro networks.
  • Participate in organised emergency drills.
  • Perform routine testing and maintenance of fire appliances and associated equipment.
  • Contribute to the development and review of pre-incident plans for stations, trains, and other key infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in firefighting in an urban fire and rescue service, emergency operations, or related emergency services field.
  • Knowledge of the challenges, practices, and procedures relating to rail fire and life safety and emergency management.
  • Ability to work towards a common purpose and goal within a team.
  • Clear communication skills with team members and others.
  • Willingness to work to a rostered schedule, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
  • Resilience to handle potentially traumatic incidents and unpredictable, dangerous conditions.
