About the Role

Support statewide monitoring and reporting of woody vegetation change, delivering trusted information that informs environmental regulation, government policy, and evidence-based decision-making across NSW using satellite and aerial imagery, geospatial analysis, and scientific methods.

Responsibilities

• Use remote sensed imagery to deliver statewide vegetation and landscape monitoring that directly supports environmental policy and decision-making across NSW.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of vegetation monitoring and regulatory mapping datasets, maps and reporting products.
• Partner with scientists and technical specialists across NSW to deliver high-quality environmental information and continuously improve monitoring and reporting processes.
• Contribute to visual image analysis of landcover change and quality assurance as part of the delivery of statewide datasets and reporting products.
• Support the improvement of analytical workflows, spatial databases and operational processes that underpin program delivery.

Requirements

• Expert in satellite and aerial image interpretation.
• Apply an understanding of landscape, land use and land management practices to identify and assess vegetation change.
• Familiar with validating automated remote sensing products by using other images, captured from both satellites and aircraft.
• Ability to sustain intense mapping tasks for extended periods whilst maintaining Work Health Safety and Wellbeing awareness.
• Demonstrated experience with remotely sensed image interpretation, GIS mapping software and spatial data management.
• Experience working with large spatial datasets.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
• A degree in Science or other relevant discipline.
• Must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, or hold a valid Australian working Visa for the duration of the appointment.
