About the Role
The Marketing Manager, Endourology owns portfolio strategy and launch execution for the Endourology franchise in Japan. The immediate mandate is launch excellence: bringing a rich stone management pipeline to market over the coming years, starting with a flagship next-generation product where the goal is full conversion of the existing user base and significant share capture. Beyond individual launches, the role owns the multi-year portfolio roadmap, market development for new procedure categories, and value communication reflecting Japan's reimbursement environment. Equally important, this role carries an explicit mandate to raise the capability of the overall marketing function — codifying launch practices, mentoring colleagues, and setting the standard for strategic marketing across the team. The position works closely with sales leadership, key opinion leaders, market access, and global marketing, and operates with high executive visibility.
Responsibilities
- Own the Endourology marketing plan and multi-year launch roadmap; define positioning, segmentation, targeting, and pricing input for each new product introduction
- Lead end-to-end launch execution for the lead pipeline product, from pre-launch planning through post-launch acceleration
- Design and drive account-level conversion programs (evaluation, trial, adoption) to migrate the existing user base to next-generation products and capture competitive share
- Build market development programs for new procedure categories and technologies introduced by the pipeline
- Establish and maintain relationships with leading urologists and endourologists; develop podium, conference, and peer-to-peer education strategies
- Translate clinical evidence into credible, differentiated messaging for surgical audiences
- Develop selling tools, training programs, objection-handling guides, and case support materials that measurably improve field execution
- Partner with sales leadership on target account strategy and launch sequencing
- Map reimbursement pathways for new technologies and develop value messaging reflecting Japan's hospital economics; partner with market access functions on launch readiness
- Represent Japan market requirements and competitive dynamics to global marketing; shape global launch plans, localize assets, and provide forecast input
- Codify launch playbooks and strategic marketing practices for reuse across the team
- Mentor and develop marketing colleagues, raising the function's overall standard of strategic thinking and execution
Requirements
- 10+ years in medical device commercial roles, including 5+ years in downstream/product marketing with demonstrated launch leadership — multiple product launches owned from planning through post-launch
- Urology, endoscopy, or surgical device experience strongly preferred; familiarity with stone management a plus
- Business-level English (written and spoken) — this role shapes and negotiates with global marketing — and native-level Japanese
- Bachelor's degree required; MBA or clinical background a plus
- Experience with hybrid capital-plus-consumable business models (e.g., platform placement driving disposables pull-through)
- Track record of mentoring or developing marketing talent
Skills
- Launch excellence — proven, repeatable launch methodology: market preparation, positioning, KOL advocacy, field readiness, and post-launch acceleration
- Portfolio & strategic marketing — able to sequence and resource multiple introductions over a multi-year horizon, not just execute single launches
- Conversion & share-capture marketing — experience migrating an installed user base to a next-generation platform while defending against competitive response
- Clinical credibility — engages surgeons as a knowledgeable counterpart; fluent in procedural workflow and clinical evidence
- Market access literacy — working knowledge of Japan's reimbursement system and how it shapes new technology adoption
- Global collaboration — advocates effectively for local market needs within a global organization; influences without authority
- Leadership beyond reporting lines — raises the performance of peers and partners through mentorship, playbooks, and example
