About the Role

ConnectSydney, a joint venture of ServiceStream, Boral, and Johnson Controls, in partnership with Transport for NSW (TfNSW), is seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Estimator to join their Rockdale team. This role supports the planning and pricing of infrastructure capital works and maintenance projects, contributing to accurate cost estimates and tender submissions under the guidance of senior estimators.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of cost estimates using first principles where appropriate.
  • Help identify and quantify costs associated with project risks and opportunities.
  • Participate in the assessment of alternative construction and maintenance methodologies.
  • Maintain organised records of all tender documentation, correspondence, calculations, and proposed methodologies.
  • Contribute to the preparation of technically accurate and timely estimates.
  • Support the presentation of tender submissions in internal review meetings.
  • Assist in the collection, storage, and basic analysis of estimating data to support decision-making.
  • Enter and maintain clear and accurate data within the estimating software system.
  • Seek and record external pricing for materials, labour, plant, subcontractors, and services.
  • Ensure spreadsheets and cost breakdowns are clearly documented and accessible for team collaboration and review.
  • Assist with commercial and contractual reviews by compiling relevant bid documentation and summarising key terms for senior review.
  • Provide general support to the estimating team and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and governance requirements.
  • Help ensure all tender deadlines are met by maintaining an organised workflow.
  • Work closely with planning and delivery teams to develop cost estimates for minor improvement and renewal works.
  • Participate in the creation of forward works programs in consultation with relevant stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in Business, Commerce, Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Civil, Road, Bridge & Infrastructure experience and detailed knowledge of estimating software such as Candy will be highly regarded but not required.
  • Some knowledge required on mechanical and electrical base work.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and within a team.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in MS Office suite.
  • Highly developed planning and negotiation skills.
