About the Role
The Capital Projects Design & Delivery (CPDD) Branch in the Parks & Recreation Division is seeking a Construction Coordinator to join a growing team. This role will provide strategic implementation and delivery of various component-based SOGR recreation capital projects and maintain specialized procurement tools to expedite project delivery. The Construction Coordinator will coordinate the design, contract documents, and contract administration of landscape, building, maintenance, interior space planning, renovations, additions, and new construction projects.
Responsibilities
- Establishes project scope, scheduling, co-ordination, and interfacing requirements.
- Supports the project team with design and the preparation of working drawings, specifications, and bills of material.
- Prepares detailed estimates.
- Carries out contract administration and reviews site progress, interpreting and ensuring conformity with drawings and specifications.
- Initiates field changes to correct design errors or omissions relative to site conditions.
- Records and recommends approval of contractors' progress claims based on work completed.
- Assists in maintaining records of contract deficiencies and takes corrective action.
- Ensures proper completion of contracts and arranges for official handover.
- Initiates and maintains warranty records as stipulated in the contract.
- Takes action to correct failures occurring within the warranty period.
- Records and recommends release of contractor holdback.
- Drafts tenders, Requests For Proposals (RFP), and Requests For Quotations (RFQ).
- Provides bid analysis and prepares reports.
- Checks contractor work for adherence to City by-laws, policies, and procedures.
- Co-ordinates and attends site meetings and project team/client meetings.
- Carries out technical work for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of City facilities or infrastructure.
- Provides technical assistance in planning and scheduling of work for capital projects.
- Prepares estimates and layouts.
- Verifies calculations by inspectors and performs on-site visits.
- Prepares specifications, tenders, and reports.
- Determines quantity and cost estimates.
- Assists supervisor/project manager with investigating and responding to inquiries and/or complaints.
- Assists in documentation and reporting of project progress and budget.
Requirements
- Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Sciences, Architecture, or equivalent combination of education and/or related construction coordination experience.
- Considerable experience coordinating architectural projects from start to finish, including project initiation, consultant procurement, design development, contractor procurement, construction, and warranty phases.
- Considerable experience coordinating multi-disciplined capital construction projects.
- Considerable experience directing the work of consultants, contractors, and staff.
- Considerable experience utilizing Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
- Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario Class “G” Driver's License.
- Must have access to a vehicle for site visits.
- Knowledge of architecture and construction techniques.
- Strong understanding of the Project Management process.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate at all organizational levels.
- Well-developed written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with all internal and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge and application of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, including knowledge of asbestos, silica, confined spaces, WHMIS, and shoring legislation.
