About the Role

Responsible for assisting physicians/providers with patient care, rooming patients, and performing clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks. Responsible for appointment scheduling and chart management. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the practice services. Conveys a positive image of the practice.

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient care responsibilities as assigned, including preparing patients for visits by taking vital signs, documenting medical history, and assisting with procedures.
  • Manages patient records effectively and efficiently checks the EPIC in-basket.
  • Answers and returns calls promptly, providing pertinent information.
  • Performs administrative responsibilities, including abstracting new patient records into EPIC and obtaining necessary reports.
  • Cross-trained on front desk duties such as greeting patients, answering calls, and scheduling appointments.
  • Performs environmental responsibilities, including setting up instruments, maintaining infection control, cleaning rooms and equipment, and ordering supplies.
  • Performs other related organizational duties, including maintaining patient confidentiality, ensuring accurate billing, and staying knowledgeable of regulations.
  • Collaborates with the Care Coordinator for Patient Centered Medical Home initiatives.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings.
  • Collaborates in the development and delivery of health promotion and disease prevention programs.
  • Contributes to quality improvement activities.
  • Advocates on behalf of vulnerable individuals and populations.
  • Contributes to an educational work environment.
  • Collaborates in developing a work environment for continuous quality improvements.
  • Utilizes appropriate methods for interacting effectively and professionally with diverse populations.
  • Coordinates efforts to gain patient and family feedback and participates in interventions addressing articulated needs.
  • May assist with chaperone duties for patient medical procedures.
  • May perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must meet one of the following: graduation from an accredited medical assistant (MA) certificate program or Phlebotomy program, certification as a certified nursing assistant (CNA), emergency medical technician (EMT), or paramedic.
  • Employees joining through merger or acquisition may satisfy educational requirements by demonstrating appropriate combination of education, relevant experience, and current competencies.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a medical assistant (MA), certified nursing assistant (CNA), emergency medical technician (EMT), ambulatory care associate (ACA), patient care associate/technician (PCA/PCT), paramedic, or phlebotomist required.
  • New graduates from an accredited medical assistant certificate program, with less than one (1) year of experience, will be considered.
  • Ability to follow directions effectively and consistently.
  • Demonstrates a mature, compassionate, and caring attitude, with sensitivity to the diverse needs of the patient population.
  • Flexible and cooperative, with the capacity to adapt to changing demands of the role.
  • Utilizes appropriate communication techniques to meet position requirements and foster positive interactions.

Skills

  • EPIC documentation
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred
  • Communication techniques

Experience Level

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience
  • New graduates from an accredited medical assistant certificate program, with less than one (1) year of experience, will be considered.

Education Level

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Graduation from an accredited medical assistant (MA) certificate program or Phlebotomy program
