About the Role
Herzog Transit Services, Inc. is seeking a Conductor in Austin, TX to ensure compliance with safety and operating rules, perform duties related to commuter train operations, and promote a safe work environment.
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety and operating rules and regulations.
- Perform all duties required in connection with the operation of commuter trains.
- Promote safe work practices and maintain a safe work environment.
- Provide customer service, fare inspection, switching, and flagging.
- Notify proper authorities and prepare reports for accidents, unscheduled stops, or delays.
- Diagnose minor malfunctions and perform minor maintenance when personnel are unavailable.
- Comply with train orders, signals, radio communications, and railroad rules for safe and efficient operation.
- Engage in and promote Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Possess eye/hand coordination.
- Understanding of basic mathematics.
- Ability to work non-traditional hours.
- Good communication skills (verbal and written).
- Ability to judge speed/distances of objects/moving parts.
- Ability to make logical choices and/or draw logical conclusions.
- Knowledgeable on rules, regulations, and/or policies for the position.
- Required to take actions and/or make decisions affecting the security/well-being of others.
- Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
- Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen.
- Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing annually.
- Able to walk on uneven surfaces up to one-half mile.
- Maintain balance for an extended period while the train is in motion.
- Aware of surroundings and follow verbal commands while exposed to moderately loud noises.
- Work in a confined access/space environment with a width of 16 inches.
- Adapt to various temperature extremes including heat, cold, moisture, and wind.
- Regularly sit and stand for an extended period.
- Tolerate repetitive movements, squatting/bending, and overhead reaching.
- Able to lift up to shoulder height and horizontally transfer up to 35 pounds for a distance up to 10 feet.
- Regularly kneel, bend, squat for extended periods.
- Regularly reach overhead.
- Regularly grasp/squeeze equipment with a force up to 20 pounds.
- Regularly ascend/descend a platform with a height of up to 36 inches from the floor.
- Regularly ascend and descend an 8-step ladder while carrying up to 20 pounds.
- Successfully pass color/vision examinations as required.
- Able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required.
- Able to work in a safety-sensitive work environment.
