About the Role

As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will be on-site with customers in heavy industries, identifying problems, designing solutions, and implementing them across the full tech stack. You will act as the CTO of a deployment, understanding customer challenges rooted in manufacturing operations, physics, and chemistry. This involves analyzing data, building models, writing code, and developing infrastructure. You will also build prototypes, iterate rapidly, and consolidate successful solutions into robust software, collaborating with on-site and remote team members, including designers, engineers, and commercial colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Understanding customer problems rooted in manufacturing operations, physics, and chemistry.
  • Analyzing data and making models.
  • Writing frontend and backend code.
  • Building infrastructure and automation.
  • Building prototypes and rapidly iterating.
  • Consolidating successful solutions into maintainable and robust software.
  • Collaborating with team members on site and back in the office, including designers, engineers, and commercial colleagues.

Requirements

  • Strong engineering background with at least a bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in engineering, physics, mathematics, computer science, or a similar field.
  • Fluency in Python, C/C++, Go, Typescript, or Java.
  • Interest and a taste for product design.
  • Professional experience as a software engineer, data scientist, AI engineer, or similar.
  • Demonstrated exceptional ability in work, school, side projects, or other areas.
  • Excellent communication skills, both in speech and writing.
  • Conscientiousness and a desire to do good work without oversight.
  • Excitement for freedom to work with minimal process and friction, while also being eager to share ideas and collaborate closely.
  • Enthusiasm for working in heavy industries, including travel, spending time in factories, and interacting with diverse people.
  • Comfort working in uncertain and dynamic environments.
