About the Role

The Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) provides direct clinical care in an out-patient practice and in-patient hospital setting. The role encompasses the full scope of midwifery practice, including well-woman gynecological care, GYN problem visits, contraception counseling and prescription, and management of high-risk pregnancies in consultation with physicians. The CNM is expected to role model the organization's values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnoses, monitors, and examines women during pregnancy.
  • Develops, assesses, and evaluates individual care programs.
  • Provides full antenatal care, including screening tests.
  • Identifies high-risk pregnancies in collaboration or consultation with doctors and other medical specialists.
  • Arranges and provides parenting and health education for the woman, her partner, and family members.
  • Encourages family participation in the birth to support the mother and enhance mother/baby bonding and family relationships.
  • Offers support and advice following events such as miscarriage, termination, stillbirth, neonatal abnormality, and neonatal death, co-managing care with obstetricians.
  • Provides intra-partum care, assisting mothers in labor and delivery, monitoring fetal condition, and using knowledge of drugs and pain management within the scope of practice.
  • Provides advice and guidance on safe and timely discharge.
  • Acts as a liaison with outside agencies and other health and social care professionals to ensure continuity of care.
  • Engages in professional development.
  • Participates in the training and supervision of junior colleagues.

Requirements

  • Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
  • Must have patient care services, procedures, and privileges approved by the sponsoring physician.

  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and sensitivity to cultural diversity in each step of the care process.

Experience Level

  • 2 years' clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology experience as a Certified Nurse Midwife preferred.

Education Level

  • Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN) required.
  • American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB) required.
  • Current State of RI Midwifery Licensure and controlled substance registration required.

Salary/Compensations

  • $127,504.00-$161,782.40
