About the Role

Objective builds software that helps governments deliver better outcomes for millions of people across Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. This role is an opportunity to become a technical leader within a high-performing engineering team, influencing architecture, improving practices, mentoring developers, and driving AI-assisted engineering.

Responsibilities

• Design and build modern full-stack applications.
• Own technical decisions and contribute to solution architecture.
• Lead code reviews and champion engineering best practice.
• Improve CI/CD, testing, observability, and operational excellence.
• Drive reliability, scalability, and performance across platforms.
• Lead incident response and drive operational improvements.
• Champion AI-assisted engineering to improve productivity and quality.
• Shape acceptance criteria, edge-case coverage, and verification practices to identify issues early.
• Confirm features are live, working as intended, delivering measurable outcomes, and meeting business metrics.
• Partner closely with Product and Design to solve complex customer problems.
• Mentor engineers and help grow technical capability across the team.

Requirements

• Strong experience building modern cloud-based applications.
• Expertise across the full software development lifecycle.
• Experience designing scalable distributed systems.
• Strong knowledge of Azure or AWS.
• Experience with containers, CI/CD, and modern DevOps practices.
• A passion for engineering quality, system design, and continuous improvement.
• The ability to mentor others while remaining hands-on.
• Experience using AI development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or other AI-assisted engineering platforms will be highly regarded.
