About the Role

This role is part of BAC’s Production & Technical Team, primarily leading on all P&T work. As a Technician, you will support the delivery of artistic programming, commercial hires, and events across the venue, working across technical disciplines like Lighting, Sound, Stage, and Audio Visual to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery. You will contribute to BAC's mission of creating welcoming, accessible, and inclusive experiences as the world's first Relaxed Venue.

Responsibilities

• Work as a skilled technician in Lighting, Sound, Stage, or Audio Visual, providing help across all departments.
• Serve as Duty Technician on a rotating basis, being the on-call technician for all events and productions.
• Rig, program, operate, and strike technical equipment for productions, events, and commercial hires.
• Support the delivery of artistic programming, festivals, conferences, weddings, filming, and community events.
• Plan and deliver technical setups, ensuring efficient use of time, equipment, and resources.
• Maintain performance spaces, technical storage, and work areas in a safe, tidy, and presentable condition.
• Ensure BAC technical equipment is maintained and in good condition.
• Promote and maintain high standards of Health & Safety and safe working practices.
• Supervise casual and freelance staff during fit-ups, performances, and get-outs.
• Participate in BAC’s wider creative life, attending performances and events.
• Contribute to staff meetings, cross-team collaborations, and organizational initiatives.
• Maintain professional development and stay informed of industry trends.
• Reflect BAC’s values of inclusivity, sustainability, and generosity in all work.
• Undertake any other duties as reasonably required.

Requirements

• Good working knowledge of modern theatre operation and lighting or sound.
• Good working knowledge of at least one technical discipline: Lighting, Sound, Stage, or Audio Visual.
• Good understanding of theatre production processes and technical delivery.
• Good working knowledge of rigging techniques and safe working practices.
• Good understanding of health and safety requirements in a technical theatre or events environment.
• Good working knowledge of theatre electrics, lighting technology, and electrical safety including 3 Phase power (for Lighting roles).
• Good working knowledge of QLab and Dante Network (for sound roles).
• IOSH qualification (Desirable).
• IPAF licence (Desirable).
• PASMA training (Desirable).
• BS7909 certification (Desirable).
• Knowledge of Lighting Networks, e.g. Art-Net/sACN (for Lighting roles) (Desirable).
• Training or equivalent industry experience in technical theatre.
• Experience working within a theatre, arts, events, or live performance environment.
• Experience programming ETC Lighting Desks (for Lighting roles).
• Experience programming Yamaha Desks (for Sound roles).
• Experience working directly with artists, clients, visiting companies, or creative teams.
• Experience and willingness to work at height.
• Experience working in flexible or multi-use performance spaces (Desirable).
• Experience delivering commercial events, conferences, or live events (Desirable).
• Experience in operating Avolites Lighting Consoles (for Lighting roles) (Desirable).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Good organizational skills with excellent time management.
• Ability to prioritize workload and manage competing demands.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team.
• Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and overnight.
• Ability to read technical drawings and ground plans (Desirable).
• Experience supervising casual or freelance staff (Desirable).

Salary/Compensations

• £30,340 gross per annum
