About the Role

The Support Teacher assists classroom teachers in providing a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment. This position supports student learning through small-group and individual instruction, classroom management, instructional preparation, and collaboration with teachers and administrators to meet the academic, social, and behavioral needs of students.

Responsibilities

• Support classroom instruction under the direction of the classroom teacher and school administration.
• Provide individual and small-group academic support to students.
• Assist with implementing lesson plans and instructional activities.
• Reinforce learning concepts and interventions as directed by the classroom teacher.
• Monitor student progress and communicate observations to the classroom teacher.
• Help maintain a positive, safe, and organized classroom environment.
• Support student behavior management using established school procedures and positive behavioral interventions.
• Assist with classroom preparation, organization, and instructional materials.
• Supervise students during transitions, lunch, recess, field trips, and other school activities as assigned.
• Collaborate with teachers, related service providers, and administrators to support student success.
• Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and training as required.
• Maintain confidentiality of student and staff information in accordance with district policies and applicable laws.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field required.
• New York State teaching certification preferred (or as required by the district).
• Experience working with children in an educational setting preferred.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and families.
• Ability to adapt to changing classroom and student needs.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the school day.
• Ability to lift and carry instructional materials up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to supervise students in indoor and outdoor settings.
