About the Role

The Service Associate plays a key role in administering the successful delivery of showers, laundry access, urgent-need clothing, and other hygiene-related services to St. Anthony’s clients. This role involves providing trauma-informed care and service to individuals experiencing poverty, homelessness, and other challenges, embodying Franciscan values of compassion and care.

Responsibilities

  • Treat all guests with empathy, dignity, and respect.
  • Demonstrate ability to work effectively across cultures.
  • Conduct client screening and intake.
  • Assist clients in utilizing services.
  • Enforce policies and protocols.
  • Maintain clean and well-stocked facilities.
  • Record data related to services provided and client demographics.
  • Refer guests to other hygiene resources.
  • Ensure a safe and secure environment for clients, volunteers, and staff.
  • Observe safety procedures and precautions.
  • Identify and address job hazards and personal safety risks.
  • De-escalate interpersonal conflicts.
  • Implement first aid or overdose reversal response.
  • Initiate emergency calls as necessary.
  • Contribute to the general maintenance, upkeep, organization, and re-stocking of inventory.
  • Complete reports and paperwork neatly, legibly, and thoroughly.
  • Enter and look up data and information electronically through a database.
  • Understand and follow organization's programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in regular training and development opportunities.
  • Participate in relevant meetings supporting team communication.
  • Collaboratively work with others to achieve team success.
  • Manage stress and pressure situations calmly and responsively.
  • Consistently demonstrate integrity while working and representing St. Anthony’s.
  • Practice direct, respectful, open, and honest communication with colleagues.
  • Proactively seek support from team members or management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Prior career or personal life experience providing insight into populations facing homelessness, poverty, or other adverse conditions.
  • Excellent interpersonal, listening, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to be polite, diplomatic, and firm.
  • Ability to set limits and practice professional boundaries.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies and high-pressure situations in a self-composed and self-assured manner.
  • Experience with conflict de-escalation skills preferred.
  • Must complete Crisis Prevention training within 3 months of hire.
  • P.R./First Aid certification preferred.
  • Must complete P.R./First Aid certification within 3 months of hire.
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours and days (weekends and holidays required).
  • Ability to complete paperwork neatly and legibly.
  • Computer literacy with essential applications: email, databases, word processing.
  • Ability or willingness to learn to use information and communication technologies.
  • Ability to be punctual, reliable, cooperative, and stay team-oriented.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to lift and carry bags and boxes weighing up to 50 pounds over 10 feet, with attention to safety.
  • Willingness to wear protective personal equipment (PPE) while working, including non-slip shoes.
  • Proficiency in a second language is strongly desired (Spanish, Mandarin, Tagalog, Cantonese).
  • Experience working in a non-profit or community-based social service agency with people experiencing homelessness or poverty desired.
  • Commitment to St. Anthony Foundation Statement of Values.
  • Desire to work for a social services agency serving the poor.
