About the Role

The Data Scientist III provides technical leadership across the Analytics function, offering deep technical knowledge and expertise in client interactions to explain complex data analysis. This role is responsible for creating, developing, and maintaining AML typologies, leveraging analytics to proactively identify and mitigate financial crime risks, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to strengthen AML efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership across the Analytics function.
  • Explain complex data analysis material to clients.
  • Create, develop, and maintain AML typologies.
  • Leverage analytics to proactively identify and mitigate financial crime risks.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, supporting Financial Intelligence Units (FIU) through targeted data analysis.
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives that strengthen AML efforts.
  • Oversee the successful execution of multiple projects within established timelines.
  • Provide second-level oversight throughout project execution.
  • Use a wide range of programming languages (e.g. Python) and techniques for extracting and preparing data.
  • Apply statistics and various advanced analytics, along with business acumen to extract insights from big data.
  • Visualize insights from data to tell and illustrate stories that clearly convey the meaning of results to decision-makers and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with partners such as data and business analysts, software engineers, data engineers, and application developers to develop scalable and sustainable data science solutions.
  • Provide analytical thought leadership and stay current on developments in data mining and the application of data science.
  • Solicit and offer ideas for improving business processes through insights.
  • Educate the organization on approaches such as testing hypotheses and statistical validation of results.
  • Help the organization understand the principles and math behind the scientist process.
  • Translate up-to-date information into continuous improvement activities.
  • Adhere to enterprise frameworks or methodologies.
  • Ensure programs/policies/practices are well managed, meet business needs, comply with requirements, and align with business priorities.
  • Participate in cross-functional/enterprise initiatives as a subject matter expert.
  • Monitor service, productivity and assess efficiency levels within own function and implement improvements.
  • Lead/facilitate and/or implement action/remediation plans to address performance/risk/governance issues.
  • Actively manage relationships within and across various business lines, corporate and/or control functions.
  • Keep abreast of emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain a culture of risk management and control.
  • Participate fully as a member of the team, support a positive work environment, and ensure timely communication.
  • Provide thought leadership and/or industry knowledge for own area of expertise.
  • Keep current on emerging trends/developments and grow knowledge of the business, tools, and techniques.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen or have US Resident Green Card authorization.
  • No current or future need for TD sponsorship.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Higher degree education and research tenure can be counted towards experience.
  • Experience in Financial Crimes / Compliance Risk Analytics field.
  • Experience in generating data and analytics insights and assisting financial institutions with addressing the efficiency and effectiveness of transaction monitoring systems.
  • Experience with data transformation, ETL, and combining data from multiple sources to create analytics reports.
  • Hands-on experience developing, validating, and deploying machine learning models.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure, Python, SQL, and Databricks.
  • Experience with both generative and agentic AI.
  • Familiarity with the business context and data infrastructure.
  • Ability to translate business problems to viable data science solutions.
  • Ability to concentrate for long periods of time.
  • Ability to apply common sense to deal with problems involving standardized situations.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
