About the Role

Optum is seeking a Senior PBM Strategic Account Executive to manage the overall relationship with a health plan client. The work directly improves health outcomes by connecting people with the care, pharmacy benefits, data, and resources they need. Responsibilities

  • Manage assigned accounts focusing on client trend management, strategic plan development and execution, and cultivating multi-level client relationships.
  • Manage client contract renewal activities to retain clients, obtain multiple-year agreements, and maintain or improve profitability.
  • Maintain consistent client communications and prepare/present regular client performance reviews, including cost drivers, savings opportunities, and utilization/cost reports.
  • Conduct regular onsite or telephonic client meetings to review benefits, drug utilization, and trend management strategies.
  • Ensure all client-specific requirements are met, including maintaining documentation of benefit designs and accessibility to Customer Service Pharmacy Technicians.
  • Document plan change requests, obtain approvals, update the Benefit Design Summary, and confirm accuracy.
  • Follow all audit requirements and review Benefit Design Summary documents annually with clients for signature approval.
  • Maintain a complete understanding of client contract terms, including monitoring and reporting performance guarantees.
  • Cultivate in-group growth through client relationships.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and present them to clients and staff.
  • Demonstrate expertise in pharmacy benefit strategies and clinical programs.
  • Supervise and assist in the development and management of client-specific implementation plans.
  • Provide leadership to client services team members in departmental and corporate initiatives.
  • Provide regular feedback to the management team regarding client requirements and business development opportunities.
  • Participate in sales preparation meetings and finalist sales presentations as necessary.
  • Ensure quick response and follow-up to client inquiries per contract requirements (e.g., returning calls/emails within 2 hours, issue resolution in less than 48 hours).
  • Follow up with clients within 24 hours after issue resolution.
  • Attend and participate in company meetings as requested.
  • Participate as a preceptor/mentor to new staff and assist in developing training topics and materials.
  • Follow all policies and procedures related to job responsibilities and participate in the development/maintenance of departmental policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet corporate objectives.
  • Provide support to other departments as requested.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of strategic PBM client account and contract management.
  • 2+ years of experience in the Health Plan Commercial Market.
  • Understanding of pharmacy benefit strategies and pricing practices.
  • Advanced proficiency in delivering presentations to various audiences, including executive leadership.
  • Proficient with MS suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Proven ability to handle complex client issues.
  • Proven solid PBM business and financial acumen.
  • Proven excellent negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of client focus and attention to service.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Must adhere to UnitedHealth Group’s Telecommuter Policy if working remotely.
  • Candidates are required to pass a drug test before beginning employment.
