About the Role

The Postdoctoral Fellow (Level A) will contribute to a defined research program in synthetic medicinal chemistry, focusing on generating novel compounds and analogue series for downstream screening and characterisation. This role requires creative problem-solving, careful purification, structural characterisation, and adaptability in synthetic routes for diverse targets. The successful candidate will collaborate with analytical chemistry and drug discovery experts.

Responsibilities

Contribute independently or as a team member in collaborative research to enhance research outcomes.
Conduct research and enable research teams to create scholarly output recognized by peers.
Undertake specific research projects under guidance and contribute to research activity development.
Support the dissemination of research outcomes through appropriate channels.
Undertake discipline-appropriate research activities, including surveys, literature reviews, and data gathering.
Participate in and/or present at relevant conferences and workshops.
Assist with the supervision of research students in the research area.
Align with and actively demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values.
Cooperate with health and safety policies and procedures.

Requirements

A PhD in organic chemistry or a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience in medicinal chemistry.
Demonstrated experience in medicinal or discovery chemistry, including the design and synthesis of compound libraries or analogue libraries.
Ability to work creatively with diverse chemical scaffolds and synthetic strategies.
Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
Demonstrated ability to undertake high-quality academic research and conduct independent research with limited supervision.
Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines, and build effective relationships.
Evidence of highly developed interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives, and values.
Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant training.
