About the Role
Zurich Canada is seeking an Underwriting Specialist to join its Commercial Liability team in Montreal. This role involves generating new business opportunities and managing a renewal portfolio for upper-middle market, large corporate, and multinational clients with revenues exceeding $300M. Responsibilities
- Proactively seek renewal and new business opportunities.
- Conduct detailed analysis of opportunities with key distributors to identify growth potential.
- Qualify accounts based on the organization's risk appetite while ensuring solid business opportunities.
- Conduct onsite visits to agents, brokers, and clients with clear objectives and rigorous preparation.
- Negotiate terms and conditions and close deals.
- Foster cross-selling of other lines of business to increase product penetration per account.
- Participate in sales team meetings related to assigned brokers and/or territory.
- Actively participate in the targeted accounts process by managing a qualified list of opportunities 90-120 days prior to renewal.
- Update required systems with broker/client visit and account status information within prescribed timelines.
- Act as the primary point of contact for assigned target accounts.
- Develop strong broker and client networks within the business unit's underwriting sectors.
- Accurately calculate target pricing using underwriting tools.
- Measure exposure and analyze risks.
- Propose product development ideas.
- Contribute to staff training and development.
- Provide expertise on coverages related to claims programs and guidelines.
- Contribute to the development of underwriting manuals, programs, and guidelines.
- Approve and place facultative coverages.
- Develop and deliver marketing presentations to new and existing agents and brokers.
- Promote the organization's products and services to increase penetration within the distribution network.
- Ensure project success by maintaining continuous dialogue with business unit stakeholders during major project implementation.
- Analyze complex issues specific to the business unit or clients and formulate recommendations.
- Lead complex or long-term technical projects (over six months) related to the implementation or modification of systems, programs, or products.
- Evaluate, recommend, and implement innovative technological solutions when they meet client needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and at least five (5) years of experience in commercial underwriting or a market-facing role.
- OR High school diploma (or equivalent) and at least ten (10) years of experience in commercial claims or commercial underwriting support.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience working with tight deadlines for new business and renewal submissions.
- Teamwork experience.
- French language proficiency is mandatory.
- English language proficiency is an asset.
