About the Role

East Side House Settlement is a community resource in the South Bronx seeking a dynamic leader to design and lead diverse enrichment activities for children and families. The role involves working with youth in areas such as music, arts, sports, and leadership development.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, create, and facilitate age-appropriate, thematic lesson plans and activities.
  • Collaborate with specialists to support activity implementation.
  • Prepare the learning environment, creating a welcoming space that showcases participants' work.
  • Build positive relationships with youth and adults, serving as a role model.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of participants through close supervision.
  • Assist with participant enrollment and submit daily attendance records and other required documents.
  • Inspect facilities, equipment, and supplies daily, ensuring accountability and proper storage.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED, with some college preferred.
  • Experience working with middle school, high school, and adult populations, preferably in a diverse urban community.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant work-related skill, knowledge, or experience.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for professional development through training and field practice.
  • Ability to engage and lead activities in a specialty area.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent judgment.
  • Ability to work in a team in various environments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all participants.
  • Ability to motivate students and set a positive example.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Must be able to clear background checks and screenings, including Department of Health Fingerprint Clearance, State Central Registry (SCR) Clearance, Staff Exclusion List (SEL) Clearance, physical examination, TB test, Mandated Reporter Certificate, and Health & Safety Certificate.
