About the Role
The Police Athletic League (PAL) is seeking Part Time Group Leaders to facilitate and support a wide variety of afterschool activities including SEL, dance, sports, STEAM, life skills development, literacy, leadership, performing arts, visual arts, and college and career readiness. Group Leaders report to the COMPASS or SONYC Director and are supported by the Content Specialist.
Responsibilities
- Foster social and emotional competencies and mental and physical well-being in a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and nurturing environment.
- Support the planning and implementation of all activities, including specialized activities, homework help, field trips, mealtimes, and culminating performances.
- Implement PAL supplied curricula.
- Build positive relationships with youth, colleagues, and caretakers and serve as a role model.
- Be aware of students with IEPs and medical conditions and follow support plans.
- Respond appropriately to time-sensitive mental health needs such as suicide prevention and grief.
- Provide referrals to appropriate mental health services.
- Attend meetings with staff, caretakers, volunteers, and community residents.
- Interact with caretakers and maintain open lines of communication.
- Attend and actively participate in all required training sessions, designated meetings, and special events.
Requirements
- Minimum High School Diploma / GED.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Minimum of two years' work experience in a non-profit agency working with youth.
- Strong classroom management and behavior management skills.
- Open to learning and growing, including integrating mental health, SEL, and special needs inclusion skills into programming.
- Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
- Ability to complete DOHMH/DOE clearances and fingerprints.
- Must have completed an annual physical within the last year.
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of all lawful pre-employment checks, including a background check.
