About the Role

The Sr. Consultant, Procurement manages end-to-end procurement activities, focusing primarily on software, SaaS, and IT services. This role involves defining issues, recommending engagement and contract approaches, and resolving ambiguous requests innovatively. You will work autonomously, managing assigned contract projects including research, strategy, vendor selection, negotiation, presentation, and approval processes. The goal is to cut costs, minimize risks, and drive continuous improvement on moderate to high complexity projects, coordinating inputs from legal, subject matter experts, and business lines to ensure successful contracts for both CIBC and suppliers.

Responsibilities

  • Define issues, recommend engagement and contract approach, and resolve in an innovative way when a request is presented in an ambiguous manner.
  • Work in a self-regulated manner and be responsible for contract projects assigned, including procurement research & strategy, vendor selection, deal negotiation, deal presentation, and the contract approval process.
  • Work with minimal direction to cut costs, minimize risks, and drive continuous improvement on moderate to high complexity projects.
  • Coordinate the inputs of CIBC's legal resources, subject matter experts, and the line-of-business to create a contract that sets both CIBC and the supplier up for success.
  • Develop contract content (e.g., commercial terms and descriptive content) independently or in partnership with a subject matter expert.
  • Help internal line-of-business clients meet their business goals by providing better service and value.
  • Focus on each client experience and make every interaction meaningful.
  • Establish and maintain healthy working relationships with business partners, suppliers, and peers.
  • Develop trusted advisor relationships and provide valued consulting advice to facilitate the effective management and completion of procurement initiatives.
  • Align procurement solutions with business objectives.
  • Work with Supplier Risk Stakeholders, Relationship Managers, and Business Leads to ensure CIBC’s supplier management framework is implemented.
  • Ensure appropriate governance is followed and adhered to for all contracts.
  • Keep abreast of industry knowledge, innovations, and advancements in business practices and technologies.
  • Become a strong influencer and negotiator with the ability to liaise with all levels of stakeholders.
  • Manage contract drafting, negotiations, finalization, and approval processes.
  • Comply with CIBC’s Procurement and Supplier Governance policies and processes.
  • Listen, ask questions, and put yourself in the client’s shoes.
  • Act like an owner by taking accountability for client issues, and know when to collaborate with others to build a better solution together.
  • Use effective self-management practices to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate 3+ years of experience in procurement and/or supplier processes, practices, tools, templates, and principles of formal sourcing processes.
  • Maximize efficiencies, processes, and systems to meet CIBC business goals.
  • Possess strong self-planning skills sufficient to plan own assignments according to general work plans.
  • Ability to multi-task, plan, and meet timelines.
  • Experience drafting various contract schedules (e.g., Scope of Work, Commercial Terms, etc.) is preferred but not necessary.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Desire to grow toward strong influencing and negotiating skills.
  • Knowledge of SaaS or Cloud, and IT Services based contracts would be an asset.
