About the Role
The New York Times Company is seeking a Senior Manager, Travel and Event Security to lead the strategic development and operational execution of global travel safety and event security programs. This role ensures the safety of staff, executives, and guests worldwide, operating with a high degree of independence and bridging executive strategy with operational execution.
Responsibilities
- Build, scale, and maintain a standardized travel and event security framework.
- Create and implement security policies that meet the Responsibility of Care.
- Coordinate, train, and support third-party security vendors, ensuring SLA and budget compliance.
- Monitor geopolitical threats, technological advancements, and industry best practices.
- Travel domestically and internationally (25–30%) to support high-profile events and operations.
- Lead security operations for major internal and external NYT events.
- Conduct pre-event site walkthroughs and design security, emergency response, and evacuation plans.
- Liaise between NYT, venue management, security vendors, and law enforcement agencies.
- Plan and manage specialized security support for VIPs, speakers, talent, and government officials.
- Develop and promote a comprehensive travel security program for all global staff.
- Partner with the GSOC to leverage real-time intelligence and monitor global events.
- Standardize operational workflows with the High-Risk Travel Team for journalists.
- Establish emergency protocols, in-country contacts, and medical/security evacuation procedures.
- Partner to secure the Publisher, CEO, masthead, and high-risk newsroom staff.
- Build relationships with executive assistants, chiefs of staff, legal, and communications teams.
- Oversee third-party vendors for close protection and secure transport.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in event security management, corporate travel security, emergency response, and executive protection.
- Proven experience conducting comprehensive travel and event security risk assessments across diverse, international environments.
- Demonstrated success, five plus years, building security frameworks against strict liability, compliance, and corporate business objectives.
- Five plus years of scaling security programs and managing third-party teams through organizational growth or change.
- Prior experience working within a global media, news, or entertainment organization is preferred.
- Active membership or involvement in industry-recognized security organizations such as OSAC or ASIS is preferred.
- Experience providing executive-level briefings to a variety of audiences, including C-suite leaders.
- Ability to edit complex security briefings.
