About the Role

Responsibilities

  • Conduct due diligence and analysis to establish creditworthiness and risk level of buyers and/or transactions.
  • Assess and evaluate requests for new credit.
  • Analyze and comment on sector, market, and portfolio developments.
  • Adhere to acceptable credit standards for documentation, credit analysis, and recommended decisions.
  • Prepare credit materials and present recommendations to appropriate decision-making authorities.
  • Proactively share knowledge to provide superior service to Business Teams, internal partners, and customers.
  • Learn about general credit insurance underwriting practices.
  • Ensure discipline around data integrity.
  • Generate continuous improvement ideas for EDC by collaborating with colleagues, customers, and key intermediaries.
  • Contribute to ad hoc projects related to process and other improvements.
  • Manage files of increasing complexity, autonomy, and visibility, from supporting routine transactions to independently handling standard to moderately complex work, to leading and advising on more complex or irregular transactions.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or other related disciplines.
  • Experience in credit risk management and international trade or related fields.
  • Underwriter 15: Typically 2+ years of relevant experience managing routine underwriting or risk-related work with growing independence.
  • Underwriter 16: Typically 2–5 years of relevant experience, managing routine to moderately complex files and contributing to more complex analyses with guidance.
  • Underwriter 17: Typically 5+ years of relevant experience with strong underwriting experience handling increasingly complex transactions.
  • Underwriter 18: Typically 7+ years of relevant experience with deep underwriting expertise and experience with complex, high-risk, or high-visibility transactions.
  • Knowledge of credit risk management principles and practices.
  • Solid experience reading and interpreting financial statements with strong financial analysis skills.
  • Significant experience leading the successful completion of increasingly complex commercial credit transactions across a variety of industry sectors and/or international markets.
  • Ability to work legally in Canada (Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents).
  • Must meet requisite government security screening requirements.
