About the Role
PEN America seeks a detail-oriented, motivated, and creative Manager of Foundation Relations and Grants to support the stewardship and growth of their foundation relations portfolio. This role offers the opportunity to learn the full spectrum of foundation relations while supporting efforts in literature and democracy. The position is full-time, union-eligible, and based in New York City.
Responsibilities
- Manage all stages of the grant lifecycle, including identifying prospects, preparing outreach, securing and preparing for meetings, drafting inquiries and proposals, and managing awarded grants and their operational work.
- Conduct research on existing and prospective funders, identifying their priorities and previous grantmaking, and connecting them to PEN America’s program priorities.
- Partner with the Finance department and program teams to develop proposal budgets and ensure timely, complete financial reporting to donors.
- Track payments of grants and awards, including executing payment requests.
- Support the director with portfolio assistance, maintaining grants data integrity in Raiser’s Edge, tracking progress, managing calendars, and developing grants management tools.
- Provide as-needed portfolio and Development department support as defined by the Director.
- Participate in varied workplace activities such as committees or task forces for office issues, diversity and inclusion, strategy projects, or training.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with at least three years of foundations and grants experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience in editing and copy-editing.
- Superb organizational and process management skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, and ability to think creatively and collaboratively.
- Formidable work ethic and high energy level, with the ability to multitask effectively.
- Exemplary team player with a professional demeanor and ability to work independently.
- Willing to work some nights and weekends to support PEN America events when agreed upon in advance with supervisor.
- Must be able to provide valid proof of U.S. work authorization.
