About the Role
Under the supervision of the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting in recruiting, administrative duties, coaching, and retaining members of the men's lacrosse team. This role aims to enhance the student experience and satisfaction while building and maintaining a competitive men's lacrosse program.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate commitment to excellence, innovation, and diversity in undergraduate teaching by building healthy relationships with students, responding to their concerns, advising them personally and academically, and contributing to their growth and success.
- Assist the head coach and department in administrative functions, including recruitment and retention of qualified students in accordance with Hartwick College standards.
- Manage administrative paperwork such as travel expenses and compliance obligations, and perform general office work including emails, participating in department staff meetings, and phone calls.
- Instruct student-athletes on the rules, fundamentals, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
- Collaborate with the head coach on coaching activities, including determining game strategy, coaching during games and practices, practice preparation, video work, and student-athlete development.
- Assess player skills, monitor players during competition and practice, and inform the head coach of athletic performance.
- Perform additional job-related duties as assigned by the Head Coach & Executive Director of Athletics.
- Comply with all applicable College, Federal, State, local, NCAA, Empire 8 Conference, College Department, and associational laws, rules, and regulations.
- Represent Hartwick College professionally on and off campus, maintaining appropriate relationships with students.
- Be a positive member of the department by supporting other programs and participating in campus events like Code Blue events, events outside athletics, committee service, and involvement through national organizations.
- Participate in major campus events, including Welcome Weekend, True Blue Weekend, and Commencement Weekend.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Playing and/or previous coaching experience is preferred.
- Ability to provide academic guidance and mentoring to student-athletes.
- Knowledge of men’s lacrosse.
- Ability to multi-task and handle a job with a daily change of pace.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to use independent action, estimating skill, memory, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- General computer skills including Microsoft software (Word, Office, Excel, etc.) and Google software (Drive, Sheets, Docs, etc.).
- Proficiency with lacrosse specific software (Hudl, IMLCARecruits, etc.).
- Up-to-date knowledge of safety, rules, and regulations, and proper certifications.
- Clean driving record and a valid driver’s license.
- CPR/First Aid certification.
- Computer skills, recruiting capabilities, leadership, role modeling, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and regulations.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable through the College.
- Successful background check is required.
- Must sign a Release of Information Form authorizing a background check.
- Submission of a cover letter, resume, Diversity Statement, and contact information for three references (including at least one supervisor) is required.
