About the Role
Under direct supervision, this role assists with planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care, ensuring the smooth function of patient flow.
Responsibilities
- Answers phones, responds to inquiries, and triages calls to appropriate personnel.
- Greets registered patients, triages them through the patient flow process, checks schedules, and accompanies them to exam/procedure rooms.
- Assists patients with walking, transfers, dressing, and preparing for exams.
- Maintains a sterile environment and ensures standard infection control precautions are observed.
- Prepares exam rooms prior to patient visits, cleans rooms and instruments, and re-stocks supplies between patients.
- Fulfills patient care responsibilities including taking vital signs, updating patient history, collecting specimens, and assisting providers/nurses.
- Inputs patient data into the practice management system.
- Fulfills clerical responsibilities including managing medical records, obtaining reports, completing forms, managing charting, and sending specimens to labs.
- Monitors clinical equipment for proper function and escalates issues to supervisors.
- Checks dated materials and medications for expiration and discards expired items.
Requirements
- High School Diploma
- Approximately 1 year of related experience, preferably in a relevant specialty area.
- Completion of a medical assistant training course that includes phlebotomy training is highly desired.
- Candidates with extensive medical assistant work experience, along with phlebotomy experience, may be considered.
- If required to draw blood, proper phlebotomy training is required prior to performing those duties.
Skills
- Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to interact with multiple constituencies and exercise "people skills".
- Demonstrates ability to exercise standards of professionalism, including appearance, presentation, and demeanor.
- Medical Assistant or Phlebotomy certification may be required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification may also be required.
