About the Role

The University of Rochester is seeking a dedicated individual to assist providers during patient exams and perform various clinical tasks in outpatient clinics. This role is crucial for ensuring patient comfort, care, and safety while supporting efficient clinic operations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist providers during exams, anticipating needs and adapting to patient complexity.
  • Attach patients to diagnostic and medical equipment.
  • Provide information and comfort to patients during exams, explaining next steps and status.
  • Ensure supplies and equipment are readily available for smooth operations and patient safety.
  • Escort patients from waiting areas to exam areas and obtain vital signs.
  • Perform diagnostic testing and specimen collection per provider order, ensuring accurate labeling and processing.
  • Enter patient data, condition, and care into the electronic medical record system.
  • Perform administrative duties as assigned, including scheduling and registration.
  • Maintain adequacy of clinical equipment and medical supply levels, including reordering, stocking, and cleaning.
  • Conduct inventory of supplies, monitor expiration dates, and reconcile orders.
  • Implement standard infection prevention measures, such as proper hand hygiene.
  • Precept new employees to the area, providing training and ensuring competence.
  • Assist providers with patient processes as a surgical procedure assistant, including preparing rooms and instrumentation.
  • Sterilize instruments and prepare specimens for the lab.
  • Review discharge instructions with patients as prepared by the provider.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 1 year of experience in a customer-focused/service setting required.
  • Associate's degree preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Skills

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and computer experience preferred.
