About the Role
As a Mammo Tech Senior, you will demonstrate excellent customer service and communication skills, obtaining quality positioning and imaging studies while providing maximum comfort and safety to patients. Warm and comforting patient care skills are mandatory for these sensitive procedures. You will also train clinical staff and lend support to the broader mammography team.
Responsibilities
- Maintains accountability for proper documentation of exams and related procedures utilizing the RIS/PACS and in patient charts as necessary.
- Performs screening, diagnostic, and/or assists in performing mammographic procedures.
- Monitors image quality on a continuous basis to ensure alignment with ACR quality standards.
- Monitors equipment for proper performance and functionality.
- Performs daily and periodic Mammography QA activities under the direct supervision of the Mammo QA technologist.
- Performs all exams based on imaging department protocols or protocols the exam with the radiologist.
- Follows policies & procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients, public and staff.
- Performs hand off when other team members will be involved with patient care.
- Assists, trains, or cross-trains imaging team members as directed.
- Responsible for pre-work, reviewing studies to ensure readiness prior to patient’s arrival.
- Cleans, restocks and prepares rooms on a daily basis.
- Attends hospital and departmental meetings and in-services.
- Practices excellent customer service behaviors.
- Practices radiation safety, adhering to ALARA principles.
- Team member may be asked to work at another RRH imaging location according to staffing needs.
- Assists or rotates to other imaging modalities when required and within the scope of licensure and/or registry.
- Reaches out for assistance when technical issues including PAC and image transfer need to be addressed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Provides staff training, education, guidance and clinical support to other mammography technologists.
- Maintains a strong working relationship with the referring surgeon’s staff.
- Assists with managing patient flow and with a strong knowledge of patient scheduling.
- Proficiently performs advanced mammographic procedures with little supervision.
- Preps and reviews cases for pre-procedure planning.
- Protocols the exams with the radiologist.
- Meets federal guidelines by performing daily and weekly QA for the imaging equipment and specimen imager.
Requirements
- Two year college degree in Radiologic Technologist in Applied Science or equivalent.
- Two years’ experience as a Mammography Technologist.
- NYS license in Radiologic Technology.
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologist Certification (ARRT-R).
